While most visitors come to Gulmarg for its legendary powder and off-piste terrain, the resort does cater to beginners. The gentle slopes around the historic Gulmarg Golf Course — one of the world's highest — provide a unique setting to learn skiing.

    Is Gulmarg Right for Beginners?

Honestly, Gulmarg is not a typical beginner destination. Most people don't travel to the Himalayas to learn on 100-meter gentle slopes. However, if you're here with experienced skiers or want a unique experience, you can learn here and tell friends you skied on the world's highest golf course.

For dedicated beginners, consider starting elsewhere and returning to Gulmarg once you're comfortable on intermediate terrain — that's when the mountain truly opens up.

The best areas for beginner and early-intermediate skiers

    Golf Course Slopes

    2,660m • Beginner

Wide, gentle slopes with no trees or obstacles. The trails are groomed regularly, making it ideal for first-time skiers to practice turns and stops.

Best for: Absolute beginners, children, families
Note: Expect crowds of local tourists walking, skiing, and playing in the snow — it's part of the experience!

    Phase 1: Kongdoori Return

    2,650m - 3,050m • Beginner to Intermediate

From the mid-station at Kongdoori, gentle slopes lead back to the gondola base. Follow the main track through mature forest with easy zigzags.

Best for: Progressing beginners, those comfortable on green runs
Note: Can be challenging in deep powder — stick to the main track after heavy snowfall.
