Gulmarg experiences a sub-alpine climate characterized by cold, snowy winters and mild, pleasant summers. The region receives some of the heaviest snowfall in Asia, with annual accumulation often exceeding 400 cm (157 inches).
The Western Disturbance weather system, which brings moisture from the Mediterranean and Atlantic, is responsible for Gulmarg's legendary powder snow. These systems typically arrive between December and March, depositing consistent layers of light, dry snow ideal for skiing.
