The Crown Jewel of Kashmir's Mountains
Gulmarg, meaning "Meadow of Flowers" in Kashmiri, is a breathtaking hill station located in the Baramulla district of Jammu & Kashmir. Originally known as Gaurimarg ("Path of Goddess Gauri"), it was renamed by Sultan Yousuf Shah Chak in the 16th century.
Set in the Pir Panjal Range of the Western Himalayas, Gulmarg has evolved from a summer retreat favored by Mughal emperors and British colonialists into one of Asia's premier ski destinations. The Gulmarg Gondola, one of the highest cable cars in the world, provides access to Apharwat Peak at 4,200 meters.
